Who writes River & Sound, and how
River & Sound is a new, independent literary journal project. It publishes poetry, fiction, essays and humor, and it catalogs the issues and the works it has published on this site.
The name River & Sound carries over from an earlier literary journal. This site is not that journal. It is a new project that takes up the same territory: independent literary publishing, the same languages, the same readers. What it does not take is the old identity. The former journal, its owners, its editors and its archive are a different entity, and nothing on this site claims to be theirs.
What we inherit
We inherit the topic. We publish the kinds of work the name has long pointed to: poems, short stories, essays, humor, and the fields of fiction that a small journal can carry. We inherit the language: this site is written in English, for the readers who read literary magazines. And we inherit the links: the map of pages here connects the issues to the genres, the genres to the submissions, the submissions to the contests, the way the old catalog did.
What we do not inherit
We do not inherit the identity. This is a new project. We do not present ourselves as the former journal, its continuation, or its rebrand. We do not claim the former owners, the former editors, or the former archive as our own. If you look for the old journal, this is not it.
