The Vincent van Gogh Starry Night LEGO set is the brainchild of Truman Cheng, a 25-year-old Hong Kong-based LEGO fan who submitted the concept to LEGO’s Ideas crowdsourcing platform. He notes:

“While developing the original concept, PhD student and LEGO fan Truman Cheng was just playing with LEGO bricks when he realized that stacking them at random intervals resembled van Gogh’s signature brushstrokes.” It was a good brain teaser to find tricks and techniques to capture the look of the original painting,” Cheng said of his design “The brushwork goes in many directions in the moon and the swirling cloud. , so there was a creative use of the medium and the clip elements involved.”

“At MoMA, we celebrate the opportunity to connect art and audiences, and we’re excited to be part of a new way to experience van Gogh’s work and inspire creative momentum in people of all ages,” said Sarah Suzuki, associate director, The Museum of Modern Art.
