MARQUETTE – Educators, librarians, authors and community leaders announce formation of Upper Peninsula Poet Laureate Foundation, which promotes poetry in the UP and the UP Poet Laureate’s projects through public events and online and print publications.

Mr. Bartley Seigel, the current UP poet laureate, and former laureates Martin Achatz and Andrea Scarpino will participate in the Winter Wonderland at the Peter White Public Library, which runs from December 6 to January 3 at the library, located at 217 N. Front street

The event will include the Library Lights and Trees Festival. The public can hear the poetry of the winners on a “Tree of winter poets” decorated with Christmas labels. Each tag has a QR code leading to websites where poets read winter poems. For more information, visit pwpl.info.

Future projects for the UP Poet Laureate Foundation will include distributing posters of the winner’s poetry to UP high school libraries, a book of poems from the UP Young Poets Program, and accepting nominations for the 2023 winner. .
