Block Club Chicago’s “It’s All Good” podcast released with episode 5!
The episode’s title is “The Dancer and the Poet,” and it focuses on Chicago’s teens finding creativity and community during the pandemic.
Jessica Romero and Jackie Gaytan created the 8Teenth Hip-Hop group so that teens can experience competitive dancing without the prohibitive cost.
For 18-year-old dancer Mia Gonzalez, the team is like family.
âWe’re always there to pick ourselves up and catch ourselves up when we fall. We always support each other, âshe said.
Catherine Herrera, 17, has become somewhat of a local celebrity since winning the state championship for the Poetry Out Loud recitation competition in March.
âAlthough I was extremely surprised to have won, I felt that after a while I could understand and be proud of myself because I have been doing poetry out loud since my second year. Herrera said. “It made me realize the progress I have made.”
