ALTOONA, Pa. – Patricia Jabbeh Wesley will offer a reading of her works at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, in the Titelman study at the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona.
Jabbeh Wesley, professor of English, Creative Writing and African Literature at Penn State Altoona, is the author of six critically acclaimed books of poetry: âPraise Song for My Children: New and Selected Poems,â published in 2020 by Autumn House Press; âWhen the Wanderers Come Homeâ, âWhere the Road Turnsâ and âThe River is Risingâ, among others. She is also the author of the children’s book âIn Monrovia, the river visits the seaâ.
Her works are known around the world as an exploration of the Liberian Civil War, Liberian and Grebo cultures, and a voice for women. Most recently, his poems, short stories and creative non-fiction articles have appeared in magazines and anthologies, including “Harvard Review”, “Harvard Divinity Review”, “Transition”, “Prairie Schooner”, “The New York Times Magazine” “And” Cut-throat. His poetry has been translated into Italian, Spanish, Hebrew and Finnish. Some of her awards include a Crab Orchard Award in 2002 for her second book, “Becoming Ebony”, a Blair County Wise Women Literary Arts Award, and most recently, a Pushcart nomination and a Best of the Net nomination for her award. poetry.
