Local scene: information session for council candidates; book sale

Public invited to the information meeting for candidates for the board

City Administrator Jimmy Forbis will host an information meeting for candidates for Gilroy City Council on September 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The briefing will provide applicants with information on city programs and services, finances, governance and strategic outlook. It will include presentations from various city departments and divisions, followed by the opportunity for candidates to ask questions of city staff.

The public is invited to attend in person at the Gilroy Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna St. The briefing will also be available for live viewing on the Council Meetings page of the city’s website.

Spanish interpretation services will be available.

Friends of the Gilroy Library holding meeting, selling books

The Friends of the Gilroy Library are hosting two events in September.

It will host its Annual General Membership Meeting on September 7 at 7 p.m. in Room B, second floor of the library, 350 West Sixth St.

This is an opportunity for the public to meet the Board of Directors and Community Librarian Cassandra Wong.

The Friends of the Gilroy Library also hold a book sale every second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, 350 West Sixth St.

The next sale is September 10.

The Isabel Jewell bookstore has new hours: Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The store needs hardback donations.

Regular prices are 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardbacks. Children’s books are 25 cents and 50 cents.
