Emirates News Agency – UAEBBY celebrates Mexican Council of Books for Young People

SHARJAH, 22nd May, 2022 (WAM) — The Mexican Council of Books for Young People has been celebrated as the guest of honor of the United Arab Emirates Council on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) during the 13th edition of the Festival Sharjah Children’s Reading, which takes place at Expo Center Sharjah with the theme “Creating Creativity”.

Marwa Al Aqroubi, President of UAEBBY, received Advisor Federico Chabaud, Deputy Head of Mission at the Mexican Consulate in Dubai, at the UAEBBY Pavilion, where he was briefed on the council’s efforts to advance children’s literature .

The Mexican delegation also included renowned author Antonio Malpica, recipient of 23 local and international awards; Mariana Morales Guerra – representative of IBBY Mexico and organizer of cultural projects; the author Juan Gedovius, who has published more than 90 books and has been awarded local and international prizes, the most recent being the winner of the “Book of the Year” in the category of children and young people – CANIEM awards (2021).

The Mexican delegation held meetings with specialists in the field of children’s literature during the festival, in order to highlight the sector of children’s literature in the country and the Arab world, in addition to highlighting the movement culture in Sharjah.

The UAEBBY organized a series of interactive activities as part of its participation in the 13th edition of the SCRF which included workshops and storytelling sessions, in addition to other events at various locations in Sharjah.

Al Aqroubi said, “The partnership is designed to strengthen bilateral relationships and support knowledge exchange with International Board on Books for Young People councils around the world, to bring children closer to books and sources of knowledge, formulate creative initiatives to advance and develop rich content that will help raise awareness in the community. »
