Audible Founder Don Katz To Be 2022 Pen America Gala Honoree

Audible founder Don Katz has been shortlisted by PEN America as a Business Visionary Honoree for its 2022 Literary Gala for outstanding contributions to the world of literature and audio storytelling, the organization revealed in a statement. Press release. Katz, a prominent journalist and author himself, founded Audible in 1995. The company operated independently before being taken over by Amazon in 2008.

The company has been at the forefront of the audiobook industry since its inception and is credited with bringing the centuries-old tradition of human storytelling into a mainstream industry using new-age technology. It has gotten to such a point that the industry has reached billions of dollars as of now and is expected to show strong growth in the years to come.

Katz is also no new to awards and prizes. His work has already won the prestigious National Magazine Award, an Overseas Press Club Award and the Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize for Nonfiction. In addition to this, Katz was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award in 1992 for his work, Home Fires: An Intimate Portrait of One Middle-Class Family in Postwar America.

The PEN Gala will be an in-person event taking place May 23 under the Blue Whale in the majestic Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Others who will grace the event include writers, humanitarians, thinkers and other luminaries.

As for PEN America, it is a non-profit organization that promotes the cause of freedom of expression in America and elsewhere in the world by spreading literature and human rights. Its members include writers, journalists, translators, editors, publishers, etc. There are over a hundred PEN Centers worldwide, PEN America being the largest of them all.
