Cynics of the world might ask, How can there be an archive for a journal where all the content is current?  True, that is a good question.  A good answer might be the archives are merely the evidence of existence.  Thus Paul’s artistic rendering.  A cup of coffee need not be cold to leave a coffee stain.  Jay is a perfect example of this, as he is incapable of going five minutes through any meal without spilling on himself.  What is left behind is evidence of what he’d been eating.

A few years ago Jay sent fan mail to the humorist Roy Blount, Jr., who was kind enough to reply with his own correspondence.  And it was no form letter reply; he even stated he once “drove through Puyallup so [he] could say [he’d] been to a town with that name.”  And what do you suppose was on the upper right hand corner of the letter?  A three-quarter circle of coffee stain.
